Celebrating Six Years of Wendy Durand

After six years of dedicated service, Wendy Durand is stepping away from the Carman Wellness Connections (CWC) Board of Directors. Since its earliest days, Wendy has helped shape CWC through thoughtful leadership, community connections and a commitment to creating lasting change.

Her contributions have helped CWC grow from a grassroots initiative into an established organization serving Carman and the surrounding area.

From Grassroots to Community Growth

Wendy’s involvement began when she received an email inviting stakeholders to join a new community initiative focused on poverty and wellness. After connecting with ex-officio member Chantal Chevalier, she decided to get involved. “And the rest, as they say, is history,” she shared.

Since then, Wendy has watched CWC develop programs, strengthen partnerships and welcome staff. She’s especially proud to have played a role in that growth.

Her passion for volunteering began long before CWC. Through the Manitoba Rural Youth Organization, Wendy embraced the motto “Learning Today, To Lead Tomorrow.”

That philosophy continued to guide her community involvement.

Building a Strong Foundation

Throughout her board service, Wendy helped secure funding, strengthen organizational policies and support long-term planning. She also contributed to the Education & Employment Working Group, helping create opportunities and reduce barriers for community members.

However, the relationships she built along the way have been just as meaningful. “Strangers are friends you haven’t yet met,” she said. “After six years of board service, the friendships cultivated from others I have had the privilege to volunteer alongside with at a table or within the community has vastly enriched my life.”

As Wendy concludes her time on the board, she hopes to leave behind a strong organizational foundation. That includes policies, financial resources and stability to support future board members and staff.

She also encourages others to consider volunteering. “The ideas, energy, and passion you will bring to the organization are immensely valuable and well worth the time investment to make a difference within the community you live.”

Looking Ahead

Wendy hopes to see CWC continue growing and strengthening its presence in Carman and area. In particular, she looks forward to the organization’s eventual move to Main Street Carman.

For Wendy, community involvement has always been about recognizing possibilities and taking action.

Asked to describe her six years with CWC in exactly six words, she chose:

“Life is all about, what if?”

Wendy, thank you for six years of leadership, dedication and friendship. Your contributions have helped build a strong foundation for Carman Wellness Connections.

Your commitment to community and willingness to embrace new possibilities will continue to inspire CWC’s work for years to come.
