Affordable Housing

Safe, stable housing creates a foundation for wellness.

The Affordable Housing Working Group works to identify housing needs, reduce barriers and explore solutions that make safe, stable housing more accessible in Carman and the surrounding area. Through research, education and community partnerships, the group advocates for housing options that meet the needs of residents at different stages of life and income levels.

We’re most proud of…

In spring 2026, the Working Group offered four Rent Smart sessions in partnership with Genesis House. Eight participants learned about their rights and responsibilities as tenants and received certificates they could share with prospective landlords when searching for housing.

The group continues to build knowledge and connections by visiting alternative housing models, including co-operative housing in Winnipeg, and participating in Manitoba Non-Profit Housing Association conferences.

Safe, stable housing is essential to a strong community. Our Working Group listens to residents, researches local housing needs and collaborates with builders, service providers and housing organizations to explore practical solutions.

We also share resources, promote tenant rights and advocate for affordable housing options. New members bring fresh perspectives and ideas as we work toward meaningful local action.
