Carman Wellness Connections (CWC) is pleased to welcome Lisa Lehmann as its new Executive Director. Lisa brings years of community involvement, healthcare experience and a passion for strengthening connections throughout Carman and the surrounding area.
The position is part of CWC’s new shared leadership model. This approach strengthens the organization’s long-term sustainability and expands its ability to support Carman and area. Rather than operating under the previous Coordinator and Coordinator Assistant structure, CWC is now led by an Executive Director and a Program Director who work together as peer leaders.
Together, they oversee daily operations, coordinate volunteers and build community partnerships. They also contribute to strategic planning and help CWC respond to changing community needs while maintaining its volunteer-driven foundation.
For Lisa, stepping into the Executive Director role feels like a natural next step. “I’ve been passionate about the idea of Carman Wellness Connections for more than seven years,” she said. “I served on the initial steering committee, then as Co-Chair of the Board for four years, before stepping into the role of CWC’s first employee. This new role allows me to continue building partnerships and strengthening community connections…it feels like a natural next step.”
LISA’S DEEP ROOTS IN CARMAN
Lisa has called Carman home for more than 25 years. She and her husband have raised their family here, and giving back to the community has always been one of her priorities.
In addition to her community work, Lisa brings experience in public health and currently works as a Mental Health Liaison Nurse in the Emergency Department at Boundary Trails Health Centre. She believes her professional background, combined with years of involvement with CWC, has prepared her well for this leadership role.
“My nursing career gave me a strong understanding of health, mental health, and the social factors that affect people’s well-being. Serving as Co-Chair of the CWC Board helped shape the organization’s vision, while my time as Coordinator gave me firsthand experience building programs, developing partnerships, writing grants, and working alongside community members. Together, those experiences have prepared me to lead with empathy, collaboration, and a focus on creating lasting impact.”
Lisa describes herself as compassionate, collaborative and optimistic, qualities that shape her leadership and community work.
Outside of work, Lisa enjoys family, friends, reading, outdoor adventures and learning through community events and meaningful conversations. She also admits to having a competitive streak. “People might be surprised to learn that I’m a fan of true crime documentaries and podcasts. I also have a bit of a competitive side – I love playing games, and if we’re playing, I’m definitely hoping to win!”
BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES TOGETHER
Lisa believes community wellness extends far beyond physical health. “Community wellness means creating a place where everyone feels they belong, has opportunities to thrive, and can access the supports they need. It isn’t just about health, it’s about connection, housing, food security, mental wellness, inclusion, and people looking out for one another.”
This approach reflects CWC’s mission of bringing people and organizations together to address community challenges through collaboration.
“No single organization can meet every community need,” Lisa explained. “Carman Wellness Connections brings people, organizations, and resources together to strengthen what already exists while identifying gaps and working collaboratively to address them. We believe that lasting solutions come from listening to community voices and working together.”
LISA’S VISION FOR CWC
As Lisa begins her new role, she hopes to strengthen CWC’s foundation and explore opportunities for growth.
n her first year, Lisa hopes to strengthen existing programs, expand partnerships and increase awareness of community resources. She also wants to develop a sustainable funding strategy to support CWC’s long-term work.
She says the most rewarding part of the work is seeing the impact collaboration can have on people’s lives. “The most rewarding part is seeing people feel connected, supported, and hopeful. Sometimes it’s helping someone access a needed service, and other times it’s watching organizations come together to solve a community challenge. Knowing that our work helps create opportunities and improves quality of life is incredibly meaningful.”
Looking ahead, Lisa hopes her leadership will be remembered not for individual accomplishments, but for bringing people together. “I hope people will say that I listened, brought people together, and helped make positive things happen. If our community is more connected, more inclusive, and people feel they have somewhere to turn when they need support, I’ll know we’ve made a difference together.”
GET INVOLVED WITH CWC
Lisa wants anyone accessing CWC services for the first time to know they aren’t alone. “Reaching out for support can sometimes feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to navigate things alone. We’re here to listen, guide you and connect you with the support you need.”
That’s why she encourages more community members to consider volunteering or joining one of CWC’s Working Groups. “If you’re looking for a meaningful way to make a difference, we’d love to have you involved. Your ideas, experiences and skills can help strengthen our community, even if you only have a few hours to give. Together, we can create positive change and build a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
As Carman Wellness Connections continues to grow, Lisa looks forward to building a stronger, more connected community. CWC welcomes everyone to get involved, access support, explore volunteer opportunities and help build a stronger, more connected community.
